Happy Valentine's Day!  Caution, gushing ahead!

I think my man like's to out do me.  We say small gifts, he goes big and thoughtful.  Can't complain though.  I love him all the more for it.

We celebrated Valentine's Day on Friday night.  I happened to have Friday off so we went to a movie during the day.  I have to say, Deadpool may not be a romantic movie but it was good.  Violent but enjoyable.  I like that it wasn't your average superhero movie.  Not that there is anything wrong with those but sometimes you just need the smart ass comments to make life more entertaining.

After the movie we had a nice dinner out at a chophouse around town.  We both got a little dressed up, which is fun to do from time to time.  Then my hubby surprised me with a night at a cute little bed and breakfast down in Old Colorado City that I had no idea was there.  Sweet little room with champagne, a hot tub and chocolate covered fruit.  I wouldn't say my hubby is a romantic guy all the time but when he needs to he can really treat me to a night of much needed romance.

So yes, he once again out did me.  I got him personalized M&Ms (because I've always wanted to do that), a new bottle of the bbq sauce we discovered when we were in New Orleans, and new sweatpants (purely selfish on my part because I hated his old ratty ones).  Someday, I'm going to win in the gift category.  Someday.

I'm more and more in love with this man every time I see him.  Muah!

Happy Valentine's Day!

It is no secret that I have hated the day of Valentine for years.  It was cursed for many years, peaking the year that I found out my college boyfriend was cheating on me with my best friend.  Not the most happy memory to associate with hearts and roses.  Timehop reminded me of my thoughts on Valentine's Day two years ago:

I think the Valentine's Day curse is broken and not only because I have a valentine that isn't four legged.  Even though I'm in love I still am not fully on board with the whole Valentine's Day thing.  I don't think that we should have to buy things for each other and do extravagant gestures to show we're in love one day a year.  The single people of the world shouldn't have to panic every February 14th because they are deficient.  You can be just as happy single as paired up and it shouldn't have to express your love one day a year by spending money.

That being said, it is hard to avoid.  I do love chocolate... especially those damn chocolate dipped strawberries.  Course I don't need a man to get those for me.  I do have a man though so we did celebrate.  Last year we didn't do anything because I was out of town.  This year, we celebrated early and went out to dinner last night.  Dinner was followed by a serious relationship talk to calm my crazy.  I am a lucky girl to have found such a love.

Jake is also the first guy to be better at the whole gift thing than me.

So Happy Valentine's Day one and all.  I hope you all have a wonderful day whatever you are doing.

Oh and most importantly, remember that tomorrow is Half Priced Chocolate Day!  By far better than Valentine's Day!

Of course the first time in a long time I have someone to celebrate with I am not in town.  So Happy Valentine's Day, Babe!

Or really I should be saying Happy Chocolate and Hallmark Day!

Oh, I'm still here.

Things have been happening.  I have quite an update that I have been meaning to type out.  Just can't seem to find the time for things like sitting around on my computer anymore.

First things first, the Broncos made it to the Superbowl.  I honestly don't really care about football.  I didn't watch one game the whole season but it was kind of cool to get to the Superbowl.  Then the Superbowl came and every Bronco fan was humiliated.  That was the worst Superbowl I have ever seen.  And yes, I do generally get around to watching them.  Mostly it's for the commercials.  However, this year the Broncos played like they'd never played the game before and the commercials stunk.  It was just a complete waste of time.  Well a complete waste of time except for the fact that I spent the whole thing curled up in my man's lap.  Still, the Broncos were spanked hard enough that we won't soon forget.  Ouch.  Really ow.

Happy Birthday to Caitlin H and Kathleen.  They both turned 27.  We're all the same age for a bit until I turn 28.

Valentine's Day is this week, which normally I don't care about.  Since I'm out of town (more of that later) this week, Jake and I celebrated on Sunday.  By celebrated I mean we went out to my favorite haunt, Jack Quinns for dinner.  Good food, good whiskey and a great guy.  How lucky can a girl get?  I got him a box of chocolates, boy chocolates because they were camouflaged.  I also got him a gift certificate to King Soopers for the ingredients of a home cooked meal of his choice.  On top of that, I did a lot of painstaking searching the internet and found him the exact eel skin wallet he bought nine years ago.  The one he has now is quite literally falling apart and I wanted to replace it for him.  I think I did pretty good.  He seemed pretty happy about it.  He got me chocolates a couple of days ago.  And on top of that he got me a motorcycle helmet so he is excused from gifts for a while.  I'm such a lucky girl.

I am currently in Boise, ID.  But I will talk about that more tomorrow.  Right now, I have other things to do.  Mostly that means I have some lounging to do while I watch cable.  Wooo!

Happy Chocolate Day!

Happy Valentine's Day...  Yeah actually I don't care.  Valentine's Day has traditionally been soaked in suckage.  For a long time Valentine's Day was very much cursed for me.  Last year wasn't too bad so I'm hoping the curse has lifted and I can get through today without the ceiling collapsing or something.  That said, the best thing about Valentine's Day is that tomorrow all the chocolate is 50% off.  YAY!

As far as I'm concerned, Valentine's Day should be celebrated more than once a year if you're one of those people that has a sweetie to be Valentine's with.  It shouldn't just be one day to treat each other specially and let the other know that they're loved.  I think it would mean more to get it on some random day that you haven't been reminded about since Christmas by the chocolate and candy companies.

My best Valentine memories are from Elementary school where we would decorate shoe boxes with hearts, ribbon and candy.  Then we'd go around and deliver little Valentine's to everyone.  It was so cute to get that little thrill that the cute boy two seats away gave you a Valentine instead of thinking about how he gave everyone a Valentine.  Those were the days!

I got a secret admirer valentine in middle school that I treasured for a long time.  Made me feel very special.  When I was moving one of these last times I found it and realized that the writing was way too pretty for a kid.  I'm sure it was one of the adults in my life trying to do something nice to me.  No idea who it was but thank you.  For a long time I felt like someone thought me was beautiful and liked me.  That was wonderful in some hard transitional times in my life.  That's a very nice gift for an awkward geeky girl.

Now I wish I was gullible enough for that to work.  Alas some bad Valentine's Day influenced by some very uncaring and cruel people has made me mean and cynical.

Then I read an article like this and I realize I've got three happy Valentine's waiting for me at home.  And they don't care if I spend $50 on flowers.
